Imani's poems are anthems to family, love and freedom. Tolliver offers windows and mirrors in her poetry--open vision and multifaceted interior reflection. If you can go as deep as she does in this work, you'll experience
a profoundly lyrical voice and a wise one, too.

The Library Love Letter: Letters One

2022

Libraries are some of the greatest achievements and hopes for humanity. They are beautiful and unique expressions of the communities in which they exist. Knowledge is power. This is a place to grow, embrace, and celebrate that power. But it is not just libraries. It is also archives, museums, words, books, writing, and anything else that highlights art, learning, community

– and on, and on.

African American Heritage Month Calendar and Cultural Guide

2022

The first African American Heritage Month (AAHM) Celebration in LA began in 1949 when Mayor Fletcher Bowron issued the first proclamation calling for all citizens to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans. In 1959, the opening ceremony was moved to City Hall. In 1976, the entire month of February was officially declared African American History Month in LA. Every Mayor since then has recognized the month, especially the late Mayor Tom Bradley.
